Empowering Young People with Health and Personal Development Skills

At Cohesu, we are dedicated to empowering communities to improve their health and well-being. The impact of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and water-borne and soil transmitted diseases on young people is a constant concern for those charged with disease management and control. This is why we partnered with Queens Health Outreach (QHO) to empower young people in Sabatia Constituency, Kenya, with knowledge and skills for better health and personal development.

Over six weeks in May and June 2012, QHO and Cohesu members worked with young people in communities and students in six schools to promote health through needs-based peer education initiatives. The exchange of culture was awakening, and the skills gained will make a lasting difference in the students’ lives.

Many students said the leadership skills had already made an impact in their daily lives, with some becoming student leaders soon after the training. Those who did not participate are looking forward to future opportunities to participate in such a programme.

By collaborating with like-minded organizations, we aim to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of our initiatives. QHO is a student-run NGO based in Canada, and we are proud to have worked with them in empowering young people in Sabatia Constituency. We are committed to continuing our efforts to combat the impact of diseases on the youth and their families, and we welcome any support to help us continue our programs.
